Wilson Lima, governor of the Amazonas state, said that a tiny passenger plane crashed in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest on Saturday, killing all 14 passengers on board.

Lima posted on X, previously known as Twitter, “I deeply regret the death of the 12 passengers and two crew members who were victims of the plane crash in Barcelos on Saturday.”

The Embraer PT-SOG plane crashed while attempting to land in a torrential downpour after taking off from Manaus, the largest city in the Amazon and the capital of the state of Amazonas.

According to accounts, the passengers were Brazilian vacationers traveling to a fishing destination.

The jet was seen in video footage posted by the Globo television network laying on a muddy dirt track with its front covered in greenery. There are perhaps a dozen individuals nearby carrying umbrellas.

To gather information and preserve any evidence that may be useful in the accident investigation, the Brazilian air force dispatched a team from Manaus, according to an air force statement.
